Happy Safe Halloween!

Cave Creek

Children dressed in costumes excitedly running door to door to trick-or-treat, festive decorations like glowing jack-o-lanterns, paper ghosts and dried cornstalks adorning front porches – these are some of the classic hallmarks of Halloween that make the holiday special for kids and adults alike.

Everyone wants to have a safe and happy Halloween for themselves, their guests and especially their children. Using safety tips and some common sense can help you make the most of your Halloween season, keeping it as enjoyable for your kids as it is for you! There are lots of simple ways to help keep yourself safe on Halloween, when accidents and injuries are more likely to occur.

The excitement of children and adults at this time of year can sometimes make them not as careful as they would normally be. By keeping Halloween a fun, safe and happy holiday for you and your kids, you'll look forward to many happy years of Halloween fun! By keeping good memories for your kids, they'll be more likely to carry on the traditions that you have taught to them with their own families one day!

To avoid the many dangers children face while trick or treating, use common sense. Be aware of potential Halloween hazards and take precautions to eliminate them. From all of the ghouls and goblins here at Cave Creek Live, we wish for you and yours a spooky, enjoyable and most importantly safe Halloween holiday.

Foothills Empty Bowls Lunch & Art Auction

Online auction will help feed hungry in need
Proceeds to benefit Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center

cave creek event glass bowlsCave Creek, Arizona – On Friday, October 20, 2017, the annual Foothills Empty Bowls Lunch & Art Auction 2017 to honor World Hunger Day will be held at Harold’s Corral, Ariz., in Cave Creek, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The event is sponsored by Sonoran Arts League of Cave Creek, Ariz.

According to Pam DiPietro, executive director of Foothills Food Bank, this year the organization is adding a new feature to its Empty Bowls event. The online auction will be on the food bank’s website,, which gives people the opportunity to bid on 60 fine art and craft items donated by renowned local artists.

“We are excited to offer this auction online so people who support this worthy cause can spend the quality time they need to research the bid items,’ says DiPietro. “This has always been an amazing event with a great turnout, but this year we will take Empty Bowls to a new level with the online auction.”

Carole Perry, who created the festival in the northern desert foothills more than 17 years ago, says online bidding will begin September 20 and be available to bidders throughout the celebration. Perry says 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center, and will support its ongoing effort to provide emergency food and services to area families in need of assistance.

Lunch will be served in handmade ceramic or glass bowls. Individuals are encouraged to donate $15 to the cause and select their own unique bowl made by Arizona artists, and keep it as a lasting reminder of world hunger.

The Foothills Empty Bowls & Art Auction 2017 is sponsored by the Sonoran Arts League, Harold’s Corral, Marjon Ceramics and Laguna Clay. Other donors are Saguaro and Cactus Shadows High School students, Paradise Valley Community College ceramics students and local potters and artists who make and donate the bowls and auction items.

For more information, call 480.488.1145. Proceeds benefit the Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center. Harold’s Corral is located at 6895 E. Cave Creek Road.

Judith: Changing Views of a Jewish Hero

We will look at paintings, sculptures and other depictions of the Orthodox Christian Old Testament story of Judith and Holofernes, from the 1100s to the present time, to see how different the same story can be in the hands of different artists. Sometimes the differences are due to changing styles through art history and sometimes they are due to changing views of women. Presented by Lisa Spahr, docent of The Phoenix Art MuseumRegister: 480-488-2286.

It's Flooding down in Texas! HURRICANE HELP NEEDED

Cave Creek please help texasThe most effective way to support disaster survivors in their recovery is to donate money and time to trusted, reputable, voluntary or charitable organizations.

Cash donations offer voluntary agencies and faith-based organizations the most flexibility to address urgently developing needs. With cash in hand, these organizations can obtain needed resources nearer to the disaster location. This inflow of cash also pumps money back into the local economy and helps local businesses recover faster.

Please do not donate unsolicited goods such as used clothing, miscellaneous household items, medicine, or perishable foodstuffs at this time. When used personal items are donated, the helping agencies must redirect their staff away from providing direct services to survivors in order to sort, package, transport, warehouse, and distribute items that may not meet the needs of disaster survivors.

Donate through a trusted organization.  At the national level, many voluntary-, faith- and community-based organizations are active in disasters, and are trusted ways to donate to disaster survivors. Individuals, corporations, and volunteers, can learn more about how to help on the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) website.

In addition to the national members, The Texas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (Texas VOAD) has a list of vetted disaster relief organizations providing services to survivors.  Texas VOAD represents more than three dozen faith-based, community, nonprofit and non-governmental organizations.

Big Earl’s Greasy Eats 2017 White Trash Bash

July 22 at 8 PM

Honestly, it's only June and it's already hot. All people do is complain about the heat while dripping in sweat and having their legs stick to chairs. Everybody's bored, running out of things to do, we're all sick of complaining and we're just ready to have some fun.

I'm not saying I have the cure for the summer blues, but for one night, I have a solution. You know what I'm talking about – it's the 6th Annual White Trash Bash at Big Earls Greasy Eats in Cave Creek! Let me give you a quick little history about the White Trash Bash. In 2012, a writer for a local newspaper in town wrote an article about the previous owner, Kim Brennan, calling her "white trash." She saw this is an opportunity to create a party. And boy did she! The whole town came out to support her and wanted an excuse to party. Now, fast forward five years and five huge, fun and memorable parties later, we are about to have our sixth White Trash Bash. I am proud to carry on the tradition that has become a party the town’s resdients look forward to every year.

The White Trash Bash has been dubbed the best summertime party in Cave Creek. It is inappropriate and hilarious all mixed together in a perfect combination. As always, we will have a trailer in the front yard accompanied with a clothes pin line, flamingos, and so much PBR Beer and Jell-O shots you won't know what to do with yourself.

We will have a costume contest, which might be the funniest thing of the entire night. Like last year and years before, we will have these categories : The Best Camel Toe & Best Moose Knuckle, The Trashiest Couple at the Trailer Park and Best Men's Romper/Best Leg Competition

You'll see new and exciting games and attractions this year. Maybe even an inflatable waterslide...! A DJ will keep the party going all night.

So come on out July 22 at 8 PM until 2 AM, for our adults only party. Dress to impress and get out your best overalls, mullets, beer bellies, curlers, slippers, spam, Slim Jim's and Pringle cans. Put it on your calendar as it's the one event all summer you don't want to miss.

Big Earl’s Greasy Eats is located at 6135 E. Cave Creek Road, Cave Creek, Ariz., 85331. The phone number is 480-575-7889, the email is: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and the website is
