April 15 and 17, at the Opera House at the Carefree Resort.
Featuring favorite classical musicals and the genre known as “the jukebox musical.” This season’s program starts with the well-known South Pacific and Fiddler on the Roof and closes with Beautiful (The Carole King Musical). Beautiful has been a hot ticket on Broadway since it opened in 2013, and it starts its first national tour this fall. But it doesn’t come to Arizona – so the Upscale Singers give everyone a preview of this latest trip down “juke-box-memory-lane.”
In between these medleys, the Upscale Kids are on-stage, too, performing Peter Pan, with the adult singers continuing with a tribute to Jule Styne, composer of hit shows such as Gypsy and Funny Girl.
You’ll recognize his songs, from “Let Me Entertain You” to “People” to “Time After Time” to “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.” As Styne himself said, “Any composer who could write for both a Sinatra and a Streisand in one lifetime is lucky.”
The Upscale Singers are used to hearing their patrons exclaim, “This was your best show ever.” But last year they heard a new refrain: “I didn’t want the show to end.”
