Hatman Dan

R.I.P. Hatman - Thank you for the music... Hatman Dan passed away March 21st, 2017. He was surrounded by family and friends in his last days. Hatman was a part of the Cave Creek music scene for many decades and had a long stay as house musician at the Horny Toad in downtown Cave Creek.

Hatman DanHatman Dan started playing professionally in 1978 – played all over the valley until 1980 – when he was offered a recording artist contract with Conway Twitty’s “Tweety Bird Records”.  "Although I did not sign with Conway (my biggest regret) – I then went on the road with The Jaycees rodeo circuit." - Hatman.   During that time Hatman Dan got to play the same venues with greats like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferon; and opened for Hank Williams, Jr. at the Graham Central Station in Phoenix. Hatman Dan is a guitar player and his favorite guitar is his Martin D42 – one of 13 guitars, including Martin HD28, Martin J40, Martin N20 (Willie Nelson’s guitar) Martin HD35,  Gibson J200, Gibson ES335, Fender Tele, and Fender Strat.

Hatman Dan's early influences were varied, including Willie & Waylon, Merle, K. Kristofferson, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, John Stewar..Hank Williams (Sr. & Jr.) Bob Dylan, Billy Currington, Jamey Johnson, Hayes Carll, Amazing Rhythm Aces, Buck Owens, Charlie Daniels, Dave Dudley, David Allen Coe, George Strait, Grateful Dead, Bob Seger, Jerry Jeff Walker, John Prine, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Glen Campbell, Pure Prairie League, The Band, Zac Brown
